As a second-generation Southern white anti-racist (yes, we are rare, but we do exist) I cannot think of words which will properly express my deep and bitter shame of our (onetime?) country.

Until January 20, 2009, I thought we were shedding racism and leaving it behind. I will never forget how full my heart was on Election Night 2008.

The last sixteen years have been a surpassingly bitter lesson in what most of my 'fellow' doughfaces are and what they would rather die than give up.

Dr. Metzl is right: they'd rather die 'white' than live human. In much the same way that many Arabs would still rather die than acknowledge Israel's right to exist as an equal nation in its ancestral land. Right now, I am within an ace or two of leaving this cursed land forever!
