Depends on what we do with them. If we use them to ensure that neither we nor, so far as we can, anyone else is ever subject to the same atrocities, then holding onto them can be worth something. If all we do is wait and watch for chances at revenge with interest, those 'grudges' are not only useless but downright counter-productive.
