I had the same feeling back then when I was a new Christian in 1980. I remember being with the picketers when Falwell came to what was then the City Line Marriott (Philadelphia) in February 1981. I was there with the one Bible I then owned: a red-letter KJV.
If I had a chance, I'd have asked Falwell, "Why are you here with these scribes and Pharisees when our common Master ate with tax collectors, whores and other marginalized people?"
But back then I didn't fully realize the length of the game they were playing. Now I know; I just hope we're not too late.
