I have a different interpretation to offer about Green Book and, wonder of wonders, you might even appreciate it! I see less of the old-style ‘white savior’ b.s. and more of an actual plea from white Hollywood and maybe the white population at large, viz. ‘Look, we can change. Even some of the most hard-shell bigots among us can change if you help us. (Bawling) PLEASE help us! Please don’t hurt us! Don’t despoil our beautiful blue-eyed women or take away our beautiful 60'’ plasma screens! We can change with your help! Honest!” I think I can understand why you, for one, are decidedly disinclined to answer that plea with anything short of a kick in the teeth and I can’t say I blame you a whole lot either. Nor can I blame any other POCs for taking that plea and sticking it in the salt barrel, never mind a few grains of salt.
Surely you’ve noticed that the arguably primary theme is the change in Tony himself, isn’t that right? I haven’t seen the film so I’m not entirely sure but that’s what at least some reviews have pointed out.
