IS MY ANGER RIGHTEOUS?

I am an angry straight married male Anglo-Saxon paleface in his sixties. Right now, my wife is reading prayers from the Morning Prayer service in the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer. Many of these prayers, of course, speak of and ask for mercy, for ourselves and for others. Other prayers speak of justice.
And I am having serious difficulty assenting to the prayers for mercy, at least mercy for a lot of other bipeds who, at least on the surface, look, sound and act something like me. They also dress much more stylishly than I and they believe themselves to be the Lord’s Anointeds.

I will be the first to admit I am not a merciful man, at least not across the board. I can show mercy to the Valjeans, Fantines, Bigger Thomases, etc., of this world but when it comes to today’s Cowperwoods and all those they have bought — media shills, politicians, phony ‘experts’ and so on — these can expect no mercy from me! They had such ‘excellent’ upbringings and went to the ‘best’ schools; why then do they show such downright evil character?

Why do they act not as rulers who know they merit their positions but like a gang of pirates recently gorged with plunder from tamer souls? Aren’t they supposed to know better? Show more sterling character?! I have the sinking feeling that Robert S. Mueller III may be more of an exception in his class than he’d like to acknowledge!
No, when it comes to this gang what I want to see is some serious paying for evil from them: beginning — yes, beginning — with confiscation of every red cent…
