Now I also remember the same year as Hoffer published that book, Gore Vidal said in an interview in OUI magazine, "Black ink begins to fill the atmosphere when you get anywhere near the truth with an American as he tries to disguise what he's doing, which is usually stealing your watch. Ditto the politicians--in spades."

I guess he was the prophetic one on this subject.
