Shape human history? It may well determine whether human history continues beyond the next few decades at all! Isn't that closer to what you write here?
Another thing I harp on from time to time, and which no one else--repeat, no one else--seems to have thought about is, when humans and other creatures die in such numbers that, in any given area, there aren't enough living to bury or cremate the dead, those dead will just rot where they fell. No one seems to have thought about the reek of death the winds will spread across the planet; no one can stop that from happening. Even the pampered nostrils of the billionaires and their dependents will not be insulated from the smell of planet-wide mass death!
