So have other societies, to a greater or lesser degree, but without all our reeking hypocrisy about 'freedom'. And that is why we need Jesus: his life is the path that, when followed, really does lead to more abundant life for all humans and other creatures. Life becomes more abundant as it is shared, and shared more generously. Mind you, I say Jesus--not necessarily the Church.
