- That’s NOT capitalism, at least not the kind of neo-feudal near-monopoly capitalism we have now! That’s God’s generosity and little else. And I would feel myself duty-bound to pass on that generosity! I wouldn’t destroy any cucumbers I couldn’t use, nor any other crop, but put it aside and bring it to food banks so more people could share in it. Capitalism is NOT God’s Way; may He keep me from staining my tongue with such a blasphemous heresy!!
2. Too often, corporations seem to require the help of the rest of us, through seriously unequal taxation (In favor of the rich) and government subsidies collected thereby. Is it unfair to make sure there are no medical bankruptcies among the people? Or that all our young people have the education and training they need to at least make decent livings without having to worry about hunger or homelessness?! If you call that ‘robbery’, then you are a shill for planters and the rest of the vicious rich, I say! I call it investing in and building up our most important capital: HUMAN capital!
All governments have done this from the days of the British, Dutch and French East/West India Companies through our canal and railroad subsidies unto this very day!
3. Does ‘using one’s property as one sees fit’ include the ‘right’ to pollute and thereby affect one’s neighbors for the worse? Not to mention affecting the whole region the same way? This is an issue which goes FAR beyond property rights! Not to mention property rights can, and maybe should, include the protection of the skills by which man or woman earns a living, however ‘unskilled’ the wealthy might see them. No robbing of future generations with undue ravaging of the earth!
4. On this point we actually agree: any justice we get in this world will, indeed, always be imperfect — but that is NO EXCUSE for not trying!! We probably could use one heckuva lot more humility in doing so in order to keep the inevitable gaps in earthly justice in mind without turning them into excuses for glaring inequities. No one should have to ‘work and pray, live on hay’ for ‘pie in the sky when we die’! Scripture teaches us that it is NOT ‘natural’ for some to glut and others to starve and we’d d****d (literally) well better arrange society so as to avoid that if we want to avoid God’s Judgment as a society and as a country!
Have a care; I don’t see it being too long before our untitled (as yet) nobles require droits de seigneur from your daughters and those of all of us!
