What you write in 'If you build a neighborhood...' echoes the experience Jews have had with Gentiles, Christian and Muslim, over at least a millennium and a half. I think both of you ought to give up trying to assimilate (look where it got each of you!) and just be yourselves--whatever that might turn out to be.
