While we agree with your main points, we need to ask: to whom was abortion 'no big deal' before 1869? The Catechism of Trent, in 1565, called procuring an abortion 'a most heinous act', although it only mentioned such an act within the context of marriage. (P. 344, eidtion printed by Tan & Co.) Then again, medical science was not as advanced as it was when the post-Vatican II Catechism was printed. That went into much greater detail. Except for that, your article is highly illuminating and an excellent source for pro-choice Catholics like yours truly.
