You make a worthy point, Jennifer. But in righting these wrongs, I think it can be important to remember that we, our country and Western civilization are not uniquely evil. Some remedy-seekers also ignorant of history and other cultures go overboard that way sometimes. It’s a balance. Yes, we need to focus on the wrongs we must right — but we also need confidence that we have the capacity to set things right, or at least move as close to that as imperfect humanity allows. And believing oneself uniquely evil can sap the latter disastrously.
